Backflow Preventor Inspection and maintenance
All water supply Backflow Prevention Assemblies whether DCVA or RPA are required to be tested once a year by a certified technician. The City of Edmonton Water Service and Wastewater Treatment Bylaw #15816 requires that any connection to the municipal water system be protected a Backflow Prevention Assembly. While required for every connection to the system, it is only monitored and enforced with respect to commercial businesses and multi-residential properties. Other municipalities have similar ordinances.
If you own or lease a commercial building or a multi-residential property, you must have a Backflow Preventer on all incoming water lines. Typically there will be one on the domestic supply and one on the fire water supply. It is also possible to have them on branching lines such as for irrigation or boilers. Additional devices may be present in Dental & Medical facilities, and Laboratories. All of these devices must be tested by a certified tester once a year.
We can test and repair all Backflow Prevention devices, and perform installation or replacement on fire water line devices.
what to expect
Our technician will check in on arrival, and will need access to the device. The testing process should take less than a half hour. During the testing the water supply the device controls will be turned off for a couple minutes at a time; usually this is not enough time for the pipes to empty out and clients are not affected.
In the event the device fails the initial test, our technician will perform a clean-and-retest service. The most common cause of failure is debris caught in the valve assembly. The technician will open and disassemble the device, clean out any debris, take note of any internal damage, and then reassemble it. If the device fails a second test after this, a quote for repair or replacement will be provided based on the internal inspection performed as part of the clean-and-retest.
Scheduled service calls will have a specific service time window, and are subject to standard minimum charges and truck charge.
Businesses with regular operating hours may prefer non-scheduled service, which is performed at-our-convenience. Typically this will be performed when we have other work scheduled in your area. Normally service is completed within two weeks of service request. Minimum charges and truck charge are waived for non-scheduled service.
Volume rates are available to property owners with multiple locations and 10 or more devices.
Make sure access to the device is available for our technician; commonly keys to a utility room will be required.
